Birck Nanotechnology Training

BNC105, Lab Orientation

Intended Audience: Birck Laboratory Users
Prerequisite Skills: Pre-requisites for attending BNC-105:
1. Advisor requests Coral login. It can be found at: https://engineering.purdue.edu/CORAL/accountrequest
2. Receive 80% or better on the BNC-105 Blackboard online quiz:
--2a. Quiz found at http://mycourses.purdue.edu
--2b. Find the box titled "Non-Academic Course Catalog (Self-Enroll Courses)."
--2c. Click "Browse Course Catalog".
--2d. Search for a course name that contains BNC.
--2e. A list of courses matching your search will appear at the bottom of the screen. Hover over the course ID of the one you want, and click the drop-down arrow to enroll.
--2f. Click "Submit" on the self-enrollment page that appears.
Please complete the listed pre-requisites at least 24 hours before attending the training class in the listed Birck conference room.  The duration of the class is typically 1 hr and 30 minutes.

Course Description:
This course is for people who will work in the BNC laboratories and covers facility policies and procedures, safety information and the Right-To-Know program. This provides access to the general laboratories though additional training will be necessary for special hazards such as lasers, and biological laboratories. This training does not provide access to the cleanrooms. If there are no sessions listed or you need to schedule a session on a different day, then contact Ron Reger.

BNC150, Fume Hood Safety Training

Intended Audience: Lab Users
Prerequisite Skills: Pre-requisite for BNC 150; Complete Purdue University Laboratory Safety Fundamentals (LSF) online training: http://purdue.vividlms.com/ (You will need your Purdue Career Account login, password will be ID number to access the training.); Complete Purdue University Lab Safety Fundamentals Part 1-3 and take the fundamentals exam and pass with a minimum of 80% Chemical Hygiene Plan and Hazardous Materials Safety Manual http://www.purdue.edu/ehps/rem/home/guide.htm
You must bring a copy of the Certificate of Completion and the signed Awareness Certification form located on page 91 after reading the Chemical Hygiene and Hazardous Material Safety Manual to take BNC150.
Course Description:
Safety policies and procedures for using chemicals in fume hoods. This is required before you may use chemical fume hoods in any laboratory or cleanroom in the Birck Nanotechnology Center. Missing a scheduled training session will result in immediate two week removal from all training calendars.
Sessions are typically scheduled for Thursday mornings at 11am in BRK-2261. If there are no sessions listed or you need to schedule a session on a different day, then contact Steve Jurss (sejurss@purdue.edu).

BNC 206, Cleanroom training

Intended Audience: Birck Laboratory Users
Prerequisite Skills: Pre-requisites for attending BNC-206:
1. BNC 105 -- General Orientation
2. BNC 150 -- Fume Hood Safety Training

4. Receive 80% or better on the BNC-206 Blackboard online quiz:

--4b. Find the box titled "Non-Academic Course Catalog (Self-Enroll Courses)."
--4c. Click "Browse Course Catalog".
--4d. Search for a course name that contains BNC.
--4e. A list of courses matching your search will appear at the bottom of the screen. Hover over the course ID of the one you want, and click the drop-down arrow to enroll.
--4f. Click "Submit" on the self-enrollment page that appears.

Course Description:
This course is for users wishing to operate in the Birck Nanotechnology Center Nanofabrication Cleanroom. It covers cleanroom protocols, gowning, safety and emergency procedures.
